SOPRANO Pretty Yende and tenor Javier Camarena are set to deliver a feast of bel canto singing in Donizetti’s La fille du regiment in the Met Live in HD screening in cinemas this Saturday evening.
The opera’s frothy comedy mixes humour with buoyant melody and notorious vocal challenges including the show-stopping aria Ah! Mes Amis with its nine high Cs.
La Fille is a deft combination of jaunty military tunes, brisk comic numbers, enormously graceful ensemble and vocal solos together with sparkling arias.
Next up in the Met Live series is Wagner’s Die Walküre on Saturday, March 30. Soprano Christine Goerke is Brunnhilde and the two incestuous twins, Siegmund and Sieglinde, are tenor Stuart Skelton and soprano Eve-Maria Westbrook.
The 2018-19 Met Live season ends on Saturday, May 11, with Poulenc’s Dialogues de Carmelites.
