BOSTON Arms have bagged the green baize bragging rights after knocking reigning champions Sir Robert Peel off their perch in Division One of the Chalk Farm Pool League.
In a dramatic night of action at their home table in Tufnell Park on Monday night, Boston lost against fellow title rivals King’s Cross Hurricanes.
But, bizarrely, the 6-3 defeat was greeted by rapturous cheers from the Boston players as they managed to secure the three frames they needed to win the league – ending Peel’s five-year dominance at the top.
Captain Andy Hillyer, whose players have always showed great potential in the league’s various cup competitions, said: “It doesn’t get any bigger than this.
“There’s nothing like winning the league, especially with the depth of quality there is playing in the league.
“The teams in the top flight are packed with county and international players.”
