I was left speechless on hearing Cllr Phil Jones has joined Turley as an assistant planner

• MY closest friends are often shocked by the depth of my cynicism, but even I was left speechless on learning that Camden councillor Phil Jones has joined Turley Associates as an assistant planner.
Admittedly this is a low entry level, but who knows how quickly he will rise up the corporate ladder?
It is all rather alarming given that Turley has been engaged in some recent very large scale, controversial “prestigious” property developments in Camden, most notably the tower at 100 Avenue Road, the tower in Somers Town and the current development of Morrison’s in Chalk Farm.
Cllr Jones has also been involved in controversy in WC1 regarding his advocacy of the divisive cycle scheme in Tavistock Place, which is to go to public inquiry next month, notwithstanding his original intention of using his executive rubber stamp.
I understand he is to resign from his seat on the planning committee having already stepped down as planning supremo. I have watched him in operation on what used to be the development control committee in close association with his fellow Cantelowes councillor Danny Beales and latterly with Sarah Hayward.
My fear is that even if he does step down from planning, he will still be on other council committees and will inevitably interface with fellow councillors, including members of planning.
Why doesn’t he just make a clean break and leave our council altogether?
