Mayor Richard Cotton meets learners at WMC Camden Town
CAMDEN’S new mayor went to the Camden Town college where he once learned French for his first visit in the ceremonial role. Richard Cotton met learners and staff at the Working Men’s College in Crowndale Road, as part of “Diversity Day” on Thursday.
Learners at the WMC-Camden College were in traditional dress from 18 countries of the world as they talked about their different cultures.
“I will be championing the theme of One Camden, a wonderful borough which celebrates diversity, recognising the contribution of every person wherever they come from,” said Cllr Cotton. “For centuries people have come here from across the world and all have made Camden what it is today. “Camden is stronger. We are many, we are one. One Camden, united together. “I am really pleased the college is taking a lead on diversity.”
Helen Hammond, principal of WMC, said “Diversity Day is always a fantastic day at the college and it’s great to see our staff and learners so involved in celebrating their own heritage and also teaching others about their traditions.”
The college is enrolling for new courses next month with those interested advised to check its website.
