Pigeons rescued from new railway bridge netting

Rescue operation in Iverson Road

16 July, 2019 — By Harry Norton

TRAPPED pigeons were rescued from railway bridge netting that had been put-up a few weeks earlier.

West Hampstead firefighters and workers from Anti Graffiti Systems, a pest control contractor, helped free the birds in Iverson Road, West Hampstead, on Tuesday.

Adult pigeons had got stuck in the netting and freshly laid eggs were also hatching, according to London Wildlife Protection volunteer Catia Babosa.

She said: “The collaborative approach made with West Hampstead fire brigade and the AGS helped aid the situation and find a solution that benefited all involved.”

A latch is being added to the netting to make sure any future pigeons can be removed.

Ms Babosa said more volunteers are needed to join the LWP group to raise awareness of the threat to pigeons and other wildlife.
