Thanks and congratulations following the general election
15 June, 2017
• I WOULD like to thank the many thousands of local people across Hampstead and Kilburn who came out to support me last week in the general election.
I’ve lived and worked here for the past 13 years and love our diverse and vibrant constituency, so it has been a real pleasure to meet so many more local people over the past seven weeks.
I was really touched that so many of you took the time to share your hopes for the future and your concerns with me on the doorstep. I’ve been so lucky to have had such a wonderful team of local activists and volunteers who have worked tirelessly in sunshine and drizzle all across Hampstead and Kilburn.
Thank you to each and every one of them. And thanks also to Leslie Barson from Granville Community Kitchen, who organised the hustings in South Kilburn and for K2K for their excellent broadcast of the event.
As someone who has worked for many years to get more women involved in politics, it was a particular pleasure to stand against three women. Thanks to Kirsty Allen for her thoughtful campaign and congratulations to Tulip Siddiq, who was re-elected as the Member of Parliament in Hampstead and Kilburn.
Over the coming years I will continue to work for our community in my role as leader of the opposition on Camden Council, so that together we can make sure that some of the many local concerns that people have raised with me are properly addressed.
