Transport to and from hospital has failed me and caused extra stress
08 February, 2018
• I READ your article about the service provided by G4s patient transport (Hospital’s patient-transport drivers oppose ‘transfer’ to G4S, December 21).
On three occasions I have waited over six hours to be collected from Westmoreland Street Hospital. On one occasion I was without any medication that had to be taken four hours prior to arriving home.
I have spinal injuries and need the medication to keep the pain under control and did not arrive home from a 3pm appointment till 11pm.
This extra stress is not needed. Last week I had an appointment for 1.40pm. The transport turned up at 2pm. I arrived in London at gone 3pm and arrived home at 10.30pm.
Today transport arrived to pick me up at 8am for my appointment at UCH. They refused to allow my carer to travel with me as he was not booked in with them. He has accompanied me since my health has deteriorated.
I feel that the waiting time for Westmoreland Street is a lot longer than needed and patient care is suffering. I feel very sorry for the members of the staff who have to deal with the fall-out from G4S’ inability to provide a service.
