THE school hall at St Dominic’s echoed to those famous lines, ‘Once More Unto The Breach, Dear Friends’, as Year 1 pupils put on an end-of-year show of Shakespeare’s Henry V this week.
The pupils at the school, in Southampton Road, Gospel Oak, have been working with actors from the Globe Theatre and presented excerpts from both the story of the young king and his French campaign, and the balmy Elizabethan romp, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Year 1 teacher Anna O’Toole said: “The actors came in for weekly sessions and at first we were a bit nervous as to how children in Year One would react. But straight away from the first session, they loved it. They understood it and were enthusiastic. They became very opinionated about the various characters and seeing Year 1 deliver their lines so eloquently and dramatically – it was very good for their confidence.”
